Ryan Cantu is a native of Laredo, Texas. After graduating from South Texas College of Law with honors, he began his legal career in Houston practicing first-party insurance defense and complex insurance coverage matters. Since then, Ryan has gained experience in a wide range of civil litigation. He has defended companies in matters involving catastrophic personal injury, commercial automobile accidents, construction defects, oilfield liability, and real estate.  He has also successfully represented minors in pro-bono immigration cases through Catholic Charities.

Ryan currently focuses on personal-injury defense and general commercial litigation matters.

Representative Experience

  • Representation of insurance clients in wide range of insurance coverage and first-party disputes. 

  • Representation of trucking and transportation clients throughout Texas and familiarity with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

  • Representation of builders, architects, and general contractors in complex construction defect litigation.

  • Representation of companies in personal injury disputes, including general liability and employee injury claims filed against employers who do not subscribe to the Texas workers’ compensation scheme.

  • Representation of commercial property owner in dispute with building contractors and successfully obtained summary judgment to invalidate defective liens filed by subcontractors. 

  • Representation of retailers in premises liability cases and successfully secured summary judgments. 

  • Representation of both insurers and policyholders in Stowers-related disputes arising out of 8-figure trial verdicts.

  • Representation of both creditors and debtors in commercial collection disputes. 

  • Representation of minors in pro-bono immigration matters and successfully obtained Special Immigrant Juvenile status on their behalf. 

Extended Bio

While in law school, Ryan was a member of the prestigious South Texas Moot Court Program and he won awards in brief writing and oral advocacy. He also interned for two federal judges: the Honorable Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo in Laredo, Texas and the Honorable Nancy Atlas in Houston, Texas.  He also interned for former Judge Joseph “Tad” Halbach of the 333rd District Court of Harris County.

Ryan relocated to Austin in late 2020 to join Doyle & Seelbach, enjoy outdoors activities in the Texas Hill Country, and be closer to his personal network throughout Central and South Texas. While in Houston, he was an active member of the Houston Bar Association and the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston. He looks forward to becoming involved in the Austin-area bar associations.

Ryan is passionate about Latin American affairs and was just admitted to the U.S.-Mexico Bar Association. He is a licensed United States Customs Broker and is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese.
